I'm not sure what possessed me to write a book.
You might say I've always, for my whole life, wanted to be a literary legend; the next Shakespeare, the next Samuel Beckett. You wouldn't, though, because it would be a lie - I don't really understand Shakespeare. And I only know Samuel Beckett's name because I heard it mentioned once on an episode of Gilmore Girls.
No, I think the real reason is because my favourite thing to do is make people laugh. And one of the best ways to do that is by re-telling the crazy series of stories that make up my life.
I always seemed to have something to say - an embarrassing story to describe, a terrible joke to tell - but I think my family and friends were getting sick of the sound of my voice. So, I figured, maybe instead of talking, I should try writing; just for a change of pace.
And you know what? It was fun! So fun, I kept writing. Instead of opening my mouth all the time, I opened my mind - and a whole book fell out! Of course, now the book is done, so I'm back to talking everyone to death. Maybe next time I feel like giving my sister a break, I'll write a screenplay. Who knows?
I'm sure this isn't the book for everyone - I'm sure some people could go their whole lives without knowing the story of how I ended up swimming naked in front of a large group of people. Twice. But I'm also sure there is at least one person out there, who will see this book in the store, pick it up, read a chapter or two (maybe even the whole thing), and get a laugh out of it.
And if that does happen, then my work here is done.
